Unveiled in 2014, the 15 Year Old Single Barrel Sherry Cask is a wonderful sight from Balvenie - single malt Scotch whisky fully matured in Sherry casks. These are released in batches of no larger than 650 bottles from a single cask, each one being hand numbered. Although no two casks are the same, and therefore won't produce an identical single malt, the casks are carefully selected by Balvenie's Malt Master and feature a consistent, rich, spiced character, complimented by hints of elegant oak.

The power surges onto the taste buds, detonating across the palate in wave after wave of flavour. The olfactory senses first detect the peat settling on the back palate, smouldering with intent. Then the combination of oak & barley take the middle ground & vanilla-dipped fruits hold fast on the front palate. With a second sip, the flavours integrate into a harmonious, vibrant taste experience, with the sweet, biscuity taste of the malt shining through to bring balance to the mid- palate. The natural oils hold all the components together giving a smooth- ness that chill-filtered spirits lack. The citrus, marine, moorland fresh- ness is a perfect foil for the peat flavours, giving a taste that can only be... Islay

Edradour boasts its status as Scotland's smallest distillery and at the heart of the range, this 10 year old Eastern Highlander is a rather unique single malt, a decidedly rum-like dram with a thick mouthfeel.
Nose: Medium, great complexity. Thoroughly fruity, sherry, sweetness, alluring vanilla.
Palate: Cloying, seductive murkiness. Rum, barley, toasted almonds. Some may find themselves lost in the mêlée, not quite enough method to the madness.
Finish: Any confusion is arrested: spiced fruitcake with crème anglaise.
Overall: An unusual malt.
Product SKU: 754049
This splendid Edradour 11 year old, distilled in March 2002, was matured in a hogshead and then transferred into a Barolo red wine hogshead for finishing. After that it was popped right into 440 bottles at cask strength, hence "Straight From The Cask". Those bottles were then popped into the happy, little crates that we really quite enjoy.

A 21 year old Glendronach released in 2011, and aged in a mix of sherry casks (Oloroso and sweet Pedro Ximenez dessert sherry). The result is really very good indeed. Interestingly enough, this whisky has no political associations. It is, in fact, named "Parliament" after the collective term for a group of rooks - and there is a Parliament of Rooks living in the trees near GlenDronach

Machir Bay is a gorgeous sherry-finished malt from Islay's newest distillery, Kilchoman. This was released in 2012 and is made up of 60% 3 year old, 35% 4 year old and 5% 5 year old whisky. All were aged in first fill bourbon barrels, before vatting and finishing in an Oloroso sherry butt for two months.
Nose: Smoked and malty nose with notes of cured ham, oysters with lemon and red wine vinegar, a touch of TCP and citrus zest.
Palate: Oaky and bittersweet with black pepper, toffee apples, dark chocolate, aniseed and warm, spicy peat. Very complex, with a development of star anise.
Finish: Very long and salty with sticking plasters and blackcurrant.
Overall: Not the peatiest of the Kilchomans, but certainly one of the most complex - really very good indeed.

A well aged 22 year old edition of whisky from Knockdhu (aka anCnoc), bottled at 46% with no colouring or chill filtration. It's a mix of American ex-bourbon casks and some Spanish ex-oloroso butts, adding a bit of leathery smokiness to anCnoc's traditionally silky style.
Colour: Bright gold with a copper tint
Nose: Sweet and spicy with notes of honey and toffee. Warm Christmas cake is accentuated by the freshness of lemons, green apples and cut flowers. All wrapped in a delicate whiff of wood smoke.
Taste: Full bodied and complex. Distinct crushed clove, raisin and blood orange flavours are at the front, closely followed by layers of fragrant vanilla and leather. The long, rich finish is smoky and spicy.

This is the astounding 11th release of one of the favourite cask-strength whiskies - Lagavulin 12 year old. This 2012 edition is a smoky, zesty whisky with masses of character.
Nose: Spent matches and wood smoke. A big dose of sea spray with hints of malt wine. Lemon zest, lip balm and lemonade. Fresh apple peel and salted butter.

Finish: Long, smoky finish with notes of treacle and Black Forest honey.

Really smoky and iodine rich. This has to be one of Scotland's most characterful drams. Laphroaig are known for their medicinal malts, and the classic 10 year old is no exception
Nose: This opens on big, smoky muscular peat notes. There are spices, and liquorice, as well as a big dose of salt. This whisky has become slightly sweeter in recent years, and it beautifully on the nose, amidst the classic iodine/sticking plasters and cool wood smoke we love.
Palate: Seaweed-led, with a hint of vanilla ice cream and more than a whiff of notes from the First Aid box (TCP, plasters etc). The oak is big, and muscles its way into the fore as you hold this whisky over your tongue. An upsurge of spices develop – cardamom/black pepper/chilli.
Finish: Big and drying, as the savoury, tarry notes build up with an iodine complexity.
Overall: The only malt from Laphroaig’s range that John Campbell recommends with water; try it, it opens up the palate massively, providing a dazzling array of additional flavours…

Nose: Molasses and oily toffee. Dates, walnuts, notes from the Maker’s Mark barrels (vanilla, toastiness, sweetness etc). We got oodles of butter, zest, cool wood smoke, almond, and passion fruit.
Palate: Dry and medicinal, with exotic spices, perhaps even some turmeric. The palate is surprisingly savoury at first, with what John described as “dry dampness” (taste and it’ll make sense!) - think musty wood sheds and hints of moist autumnal forest floor. The sherry notes are there too, but rather than being the big Christmas pudding flavour one often expects from Oloroso-aged whisky, we are instead treated to a much more restrained iced fruitcake, graced with hints of Laphroaig’s classic smoke.
Finish: Oaked. The mustiness carries into the finish, which lasts for a good while, with oily spices and dried fruit.

A 10 year old from the Tobermory distillery on Mull, a Gold Medal winner at the 2008 International Wine and Spirits Competition.
The nose is quite light and well-balanced. There is a very soft peat with a gentle smoke. Notes of barley and malt extract with walnut and pine oil and a hint of iodine with notes of dried fruit and nuts. The palate is medium-bodied and quite rich. There are notes of spice and smoke gathering above the charred oak. The peat is quiet and dry with a touch of black pepper and earth. The finish is of medium-length and slightly smoky with spice.

Amber is part of The Macallan's new no age statement range of Speyside single malts, which concentrates on colour. The theory is that by using 100% sherry casks and natural colour, the darker the whisky, the older and more complex
Nose: Soft aromatic vanilla, lemon and barley with hints of ginger.
Palate: Surprisingly thick and fruity compared to the nose. Golden sultanas, dates, apple peelings and a dusting of cinnamon.
Finish: Fragrant oak finish.
Overall: The second level in the 1824 Series, after the more citrus-led Gold.
Product SKU: 756702
Product SKU: 761702
The third darkest and third most expensive bottling in the no age statement, sherry matured 1824 Series from The Macallan. Sienna is a naturally occuring pigment, referring not only to the hue of this expression but to the fact that The Macallan's whiskies are all released with no added colouring.
Nose: Noticeably bigger than Gold and Amber, orange peel, vanilla sugar and hot cross buns.
Palate: Raisins and dried apricots, ripe greengages, frozen currants.
Finish: Fruity and slightly spiced with a touch of anise.
Overall: This is where the 1824 Series becomes more intense.
Product SKU: 762789
Nose : Rich Sherry influences with fruit cake, raisins and mazipan aromas. Hints of beeswax polish develop with a lingering charred oak edge
